Extracurricular Activities

Athletics

We are pleased to have an outstanding Athletics program at STAA. In the fall we offer boys and girls soccer and girls volleyball to our students. In the winter, we offer basketball to boys and girls. Finally we have boys and girls soccer in the spring. Athletics is a great opportunity for your child to make friends, stay active, and show their school spirit.

Girl and Boy Scouts

Both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts have groups here at STAA. Our students are at all levels from Tiger scouts to Boy Scouts and from Daisies to Cadets in Girl Scouts. Scouts are allowed to show their pride by wearing their sashes or shirts on days they have meetings.

The School Play

Do your children love to act and sing? Do they enjoy being a part of a stage crew? If you answered yes, the school play is where they want to go. Students can be a part of the chorus or try out for the lead in one of our very popular plays. Past plays include: Peter Pan, The Wizard of Oz, Beauty and the Beast, Annie, and The Little Mermaid.

Engineering Club

As a branch off of Project Lead the Way, our teachers have developed a club which prepares our 5th and 6th grade students for the engineering activities they will experience in 7th and 8th grade. Check out the STAA Facebook page for examples of what our students are doing.

Our "Let's Build It" club for students in grades 1-4 takes a hands on approach to engineering, allowing students to directly engage with basic engineering concepts through a variety of fun and educational activities. Students will improve their problem solving, math, and physics skills-all while engaging in exciting building projects.

Chess Club

Develop your child’s intellect through the royal game of chess! Current research has shown a strong link between chess and academic performance in a variety of areas, including mathematics and language arts. Also, chess has been proven to enhance children’s motivation, concentration, focus, social skills, and creativity

Drama Club

Students are given the opportunity to hone their acting skills be taking part in skits and improvisations that are fun and inspirational. This is a great chance for students to prepare themselves for Play tryouts

Arts and Crafts Club

Students in our lower grades will work the right side of their brains by building their artistic ability through various arts and crafts activities after school. This is a fun way to show your skills or find skills you never knew you had. It does not matter what level of creativity you are, join this fun group to have fun and make cool crafts.

Geography Club

Geography club is a time for interested students to get together and learn about the geography of the world. Students do activities, some hands-on and some internet based which will prepare them for the school-wide National Geographic Geography Bee each year. They will also receive ideas and resources they can use to study at home that relate to what they do in the classroom.

Board Game Club

Board Game Club is a chance for students in the lower grades to come after school and challenge each other in a variety of fun board games. Students have a number of games to choose from and may bring their own to share with their friends.
